VISIA® Skin Analysis System

You look in the mirror and see a reflection staring back at you, but how much can you really know about your skin’s health just by looking at it in a mirror. Surface-level concerns like wrinkles or dark spots are just the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the visible landscape of your skin lies a complex world of textures, tones and potential issues that are not easily seen. Even if you can pinpoint what bothers you on the surface, navigating the maze of treatment options can be overwhelming.

That’s where the VISIA® Skin Analysis System comes in at Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery. This revolutionary technology offers a comprehensive view of your skin that goes beyond what meets the naked eye. With VISIA, you’re not just getting a snapshot; you’re gaining an extensive analysis of your skin and a roadmap to more personalized skincare that can lead to your optimal skin health.

What Is the VISIA® Skin Analysis System?

You might be wondering what the VISIA Skin Analysis System is all about. This cutting-edge technology offers a comprehensive facial imaging analysis that reveals the true health of your skin.

Developed by Canfield Scientific, the VISIA System captures high-quality facial images in standard, cross-polarized and UV lighting modes. This allows for a detailed examination of your skin’s characteristics and underlying damage.

What Can VISIA® Reveal?

VISIA is adept at identifying a range of skin conditions and characteristics, including the following concerns that may be developing or are already visible:

  • Wrinkles: Fine to deep lines or creases in the skin due to decreased skin elasticity and sun exposure
  • Spots: Various types of pigmentation issues, including brown and red spots of various sizes
  • Pores: Size and visibility of your sweat gland openings
  • Texture: Smoothness or roughness of your skin, including indentations or elevated areas
  • UV Spots: Sun spots result from your skin absorbing UV light, which leads to coagulated sites of melanin below the surface of your skin
  • Red Areas: Redness that may indicate acne, inflammation, broken capillaries (spider veins) or rosacea
  • Porphyrins: Bacterial excretions that can become lodged in pores and lead to acne

Why Choose VISIA® for Your Skin Analysis?

Personalized Treatment Plans

When it comes to skincare treatments, one size doesn’t fit all. You have unique skin, and it deserves a tailored approach for the best results. VISIA provides an unparalleled, in-depth understanding of your skin quality, helping Dr. Terrasse recommend treatments specifically designed for your skin concerns.

Uncover Hidden Issues With Early Detection

VISIA’s advanced imaging techniques serve as both a diagnostic and preventive tool for your skin’s health. By revealing issues that aren’t visible to the naked eye, such as underlying sun damage through UV photography, VISIA gives you the advantage of early intervention. This proactive approach allows you to address potential problems before they escalate, guiding you toward targeted treatments and proactive lifestyle changes like enhanced sun protection.

Track Your Progress and Monitor Treatment Efficacy

VISIA is more than just a one-and-done session. One of the standout features of VISIA is that the system allows for ongoing assessments, enabling you to track your skin’s progress over time. Subsequent sessions can be compared to your baseline images, offering a clear picture of how well your treatments are working. This allows for data-driven adjustments to your treatment plan as needed and peace of mind knowing you’re improving your skin health.

The Science Behind VISIA®: How It Works

Multi-spectral Imaging: A Closer Look

You might be wondering how VISIA captures such detailed information about your skin. The answer lies in multi-spectral imaging, a technology that uses different wavelengths of light to penetrate various layers of your skin.

Here’s how the various types of light imaging in VISIA work:

  • Standard Light/IntelliFlash®: Targets the skin’s surface to identify issues like wrinkles, fine lines and visible spots
  • Cross-Polarized Light: Penetrates just below the skin’s surface to assess attributes like redness and rosacea
  • UV Light: Goes even deeper to reveal sun damage that hasn’t yet manifested as visible concerns

Each wavelength interacts differently with skin tissues, allowing VISIA to collect a wealth of data. This multi-layered approach provides a holistic view of your skin’s health, from surface to subsurface concerns.

RBX® Technology for Red and Brown Spots

VISIA takes its skin analysis a step further with RBX Technology, which uses specific algorithms to process the multi-spectral images. This feature differentiates between the red and brown color signatures in your skin, easily identifying conditions characterized by red and brown color concentrations, such as rosacea, spider veins and hyperpigmentation.

The RBX Technology provides quantitative data for a more precise skin evaluation, which allows for a more targeted and effective treatment plan to address your unique skin concerns.

How to Prepare: Setting the Stage for Accurate Analysis

Following these recommendations will help the VISIA System capture precise images to produce the most accurate analysis of your skin.

Avoid Sun Exposure

We advise minimizing sun exposure to your face for at least 48 hours before your VISIA session. Sunburns and tanning can alter the natural state of your skin, affecting the accuracy of the analysis.

Steer Clear of Skin Irritants

Avoid using products that can irritate your skin for a few days leading up to your VISIA analysis. Ingredients like retinol, glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide can cause temporary redness or peeling, which could skew the results.

Come With a Clean Face, if Possible

We recommend coming to your VISIA session with a clean face, free of makeup or heavy lotions. This allows VISIA to capture the most accurate representation of your skin and allows for consistent results if you have multiple imaging sessions over time.

However, if this is not possible, we will note the state of your skin when you arrive. VISIA allows for recording whether your skin is “clean” (recently cleansed and without makeup or heavy lotions), “fresh makeup” (makeup applied within the last hour) or “other” (any other case, such as older makeup, skin cleansed several hours prior, etc.). This selection will allow VISIA to more accurately interpret your results, especially when comparing two or more sessions when your skin wasn’t in the same state.

The User Experience: What to Expect During Your VISIA® Session

Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect during your VISIA session at Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery:

Capturing Your Facial Images

The VISIA session itself is quick and noninvasive. You’ll be asked to place your chin on a rest to stabilize your head for the imaging. The machine then rotates around your face, capturing high-resolution images in various lighting conditions. The process is comfortable and takes just a few minutes.

Analysis and Report Generation

The system’s software evaluates your skin based on various metrics such as age spots, wrinkles and texture. A detailed report is generated, complete with your skin’s percentile scores compared to others in your age range and skin type group.

Your Consultation

After the imaging is complete, you’ll sit down with one of our licensed medical aestheticians to review your results. You’ll discuss in detail about your skin’s current condition and how it compares to others in your demographic. Your skin analysis can offer unique insights into what areas might need more attention and how specific concerns can be treated. Dr. Terrasse and ERASE MediSpa will develop a personalized treatment plan based on the report and your goals.
