Brow / Forehead Lift
Brow Lift
Your eyebrows and forehead are among your most expressive facial features. A raised eyebrow conveys curiosity. The forehead pushes back when laughing. When crying, your eyebrows and forehead push down. Many facial movements associated with your eyebrows and forehead are integral for conveying emotion. However, over time, these frequent facial movements can disrupt the structural integrity of your eyebrows and forehead, which can make deep lines and wrinkles appear permanently imprinted on your face. When this occurs, your forehead and eyebrows can give off an image that makes you seem perpetually tired and worried, which can make your eyebrows and forehead not as expressive as they once were. Thankfully, it is possible to regain the structural integrity of your forehead and eyebrows with the help of a brow lift.
A brow lift, known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the appearance of the forehead to create an image that is more alert, excited and more expressive. If you are a resident of Chicagoland and Northshore communities and would like to restore your forehead and eyebrows into a more youthful image, contact Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery to schedule a brow lift consultation. What Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is designed to correct age signs by elevating the eyebrows. The surgical procedure is perfect for addressing cosmetic concerns such as deep creases across the forehead, creases above the eyes and furrowed brows. Typically, a brow lift involves removing excess skin tissue and repositioning the remaining tissues to lift the eyebrows subtly. Essentially, the procedure revitalizes your image by correcting sagging and deep wrinkles. A brow lift is a less invasive procedure compared to a full facelift, making it ideal for patients seeking to correct age signs that are concentrated on their brow.
Often, a brow lift is performed in conjunction with other procedures to create comprehensive results. Other procedures that a brow lift is combined with include eyelid surgery and a neck lift or with non-surgical treatments, including a chemical peel and injectables. During an initial consultation with Dr. Terrasse, your concerns will be thoroughly addressed, and he will help determine if additional procedures or treatments may be needed.
Am I a Candidate for a Brow Lift?
You are an excellent candidate for a brow lift if you have cosmetic concerns around your forehead, upper eyelids and brow. The surgical procedure can create more definition in the upper portion of your facial structure, making a more appealing profile. If you are struggling with the following, a brow lift is perfect for you:
- Lowered eyebrows
- A drooping brow line
- An asymmetrical brow
- Creases across the forehead
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- An expression that seems permanently tired or worried
You should be in relatively good health and be a non-smoker if you are considering the procedure. If you are a smoker, you will be asked to quit for several weeks before and after your brow lift so you recover properly. Dr. Terrasse will review your aesthetic goals with you during your initial consultation.
The Brow Lift Procedure
Dr. Terrasse performs a brow lift utilizing the open brow lift technique, which is also known as a classic or coronal brow lift. An open brow lift is an outpatient procedure that utilizes local anesthesia for sedation. Your open brow lift will involve making a long incision along the top of your scalp from ear to ear. The incision will be made just above your hairline, making it scarring less noticeable. Through this incision, Dr. Terrasse will lift the tissues and skin of your forehead and may remove excess muscle and skin. Removing the excess tissues and muscle will allow your forehead to appear flatter and smoother. When he believes he has repositioned and removed enough tissue and skin so that your forehead is suitable to your facial structure, he will carefully close the incision. An open brow lift lasts approximately one to two hours.
Brow Lift Recovery and Results
It will take approximately seven to 10 days to recover after your brow lift procedure until you are able to return to normal activities. More strenuous activities, such as exercising, should be postponed for several weeks or until Dr. Terrasse deems you are well able to return to performing them. You should also avoid sun exposure for several months to limit the risk for complications.
You will notice swelling, bruising, itching, and numbness around the treatment site after your brow lift. These are normal side effects and typically go away after several days. Swelling usually goes away after one week, while bruising can remain for seven to 10 days. When your brow lift is complete, head dressings will be in place and should be removed within three days after your surgery. Stitches will be removed after approximately one week. During this period of recovery, you should keep your head elevated.
A brow lift is a surgical procedure that produces long-lasting and natural-looking results. Typically, patients can expect their results to last for several years, allowing a youthful image to be restored. In addition to creating a more youthful image, a brow lift can allow you to create more natural facial expressions, making it, so you no longer have an image defined by worry and tiredness. Because the forehead is such an expressive facet of the facial structure, lines and wrinkles will gradually reappear after the surgery. However, these lines and wrinkles will not be as severe had surgery not been performed.
