Preparing for Your Microneedling Treatment

Though microneedling doesn’t require extensive downtime, taking the proper steps before your treatment is still essential for optimal results. Dr. Terrasse and our team will provide detailed pre-treatment instructions tailored to your needs. 

These instructions often include the following recommendations:

Two to Four Weeks Before Treatment: You may be advised to discontinue or avoid certain products and treatments as applicable, including retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids and other exfoliating treatments. 

One Week Before Treatment: You may be advised to discontinue certain blood-thinning medications and any other supplements that may interfere with the treatment process, including recovery. This also applies to other cosmetic treatments that may irritate the skin. 

24 Hours Before Treatment: Keeping the skin clean and clear is essential during this window, but make sure to avoid harsh scrubs or potentially irritating products. Stay well-hydrated and avoid alcohol consumption.

Day of Treatment: Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Eat a light meal beforehand and wear comfortable clothing. Mild redness is to be expected immediately following your treatment session. 

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Your Vivace experience at Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery begins with a thorough consultation to review your treatment goals and customize your session. The entire process typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and number of treated areas.

Preparation Phase: Your provider will clean and prepare the skin for treatment. A topical numbing cream may be applied for your comfort. It will take several minutes for the numbing cream to take effect.

Treatment Phase: Once the treatment area is fully prepared, one of our skilled aestheticians will begin the treatment. The device is systematically moved across the treatment area, allowing the gold-plated needles to create micro-channels in the skin while delivering radiofrequency energy. Most patients describe the sensation as a warm, tingling feeling. 

Completion: After treatment, a soothing serum or growth factors may be applied to improve healing and results. You’ll receive detailed post-treatment care instructions and schedule any necessary follow-up appointments.

The entire experience is designed to be comfortable and relaxing, with most patients finding the treatment much more pleasant than anticipated.

Vivace® RF Microneedling Recovery and Aftercare

Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within 24 to 48 hours of treatment. 

Immediately after treatment, your skin should take on a slightly pink or red appearance, similar to a sunburn. This is a normal part of the process, indicating that the treatment has worked and healing is underway. If you were prescribed a healing serum or moisturizer, now is the time to apply it.

Throughout the first week after treatment, you should notice a consistent decrease in redness (typically within two to three days). Some patients experience mild swelling, which should also be resolved within the first week. Towards days six and seven, you may begin noticing initial improvements in skin texture and luster.

What Results Can I Expect?

In the weeks following your skin-tightening microneedling treatment, you’ll notice continual improvement in skin texture, tone and radiance. Make sure to follow all post-treatment instructions, including using sun protection and avoiding any treatments or medications as directed. Understanding what to expect at which stage is key to establishing appropriate expectations and post-treatment care practices.

From two to four weeks, any initial improvements you noticed towards the end of the first week should become more pronounced as collagen production accelerates. This includes reduced pore size, softened fine lines and a lifted appearance to the skin.

Results typically peak between two to three months after your last treatment session. This gives the collagen enough time to fully mature. You should notice a significant boost in firmness, skin texture and overall skin quality. Fine lines and enlarged pores should be dramatically reduced. 

With proper aftercare, you can maintain these results for as long as 12 to 18 months. Having maintenance treatments once or twice a year can significantly improve both the quality and duration of your results.
