What Is Jeuveau®?

Like Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®, Jeuveau® is a prescription medicine that contains a purified form of the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A. These products work by preventing nerves from telling facial muscles to flex. When Jeuveau® is strategically injected into an overactive area of your face, it temporarily immobilizes the muscles that cause wrinkles to form, smoothing expression lines so you look more refreshed. Jeuveau® is FDA-approved to treat vertical creases that can develop in between the eyebrows — also known as “elevens,” frown lines or glabellar lines.

Jeuveau® is different from its competitors in several key ways. Jeuveau® is only developed for aesthetic purposes, while other neurotoxins have both cosmetic and medical applications. The botulinum in Jeuveau® is derived from a different strain (prabotulinumtoxinA) than other wrinkle-relaxers and prepared using a unique, state-of-the-art purification process. This means that Jeuveau® may get better results than another neuromodulator for some patients, and vice-versa. Patients interested in Jeuveau® should be in good overall health and have reasonable expectations about the results a Jeuveau® treatment can provide.

Unlike other neuromodulators, which can be used for treating medical conditions such as muscle spasms and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), Jeuveau® is exclusively intended to treat cosmetic imperfections. Jeauveau® addresses concerns such as:

The Jeuveau® Procedure

During an initial consultation, Dr. Terrasse will discuss your medical history to determine if you’re a suitable candidate for a neuromodulator and gauge which one would be most beneficial for you. If Jeuveau® is decided upon, he will then determine which areas should be treated and how many injections will be needed to meet your goals. The amount of product used during your treatment will depend on the severity of the wrinkles and the number of areas that are addressed. It’s essential to receive Jeuveau® injections from a qualified injector, like Dr. Terrasse, to ensure your results meet your goals while retaining the natural mobility of your face.

Jeuveau® is administered through carefully placed injections performed with an ultra-fine needle. These injections require a mix of experience, artistry and attention to detail to produce fresh, natural-looking results. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. If you are concerned about your treatment being painful, you may choose to have a topical anesthetic applied before the injections. A typical Jeuveau® procedure takes approximately 10 minutes and patients are allowed to return to their daily activities immediately afterward.

Jeuveau® Recovery and Results

After your appointment, you may notice some mild bruising, redness and swelling in the locations of your injections. This is normal and temporary and should not keep you from resuming your regular routine. These symptoms will naturally subside.

Jeuveau® produces results quickly but not immediately. It will take some time for your muscles to relax after an injection — usually around two to five days — and will take approximately one week for your results to fully set in. Most patients enjoy months of beautiful and natural rejuvenation, which can be maintained with regular touch-up sessions.
