What Is an Injectable Filler?

An injectable filler, also known as a dermal filler, is a treatment that addresses signs of age by improving facial contours. The treatment is also often used to enhance certain parts of the face where volume is desirable, such as the lips and the cheeks. Injectable fillers are commonly made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced by the body that helps retain water in tissues, so they are moist and have a plumping effect, but some consist of other equally effective substances.

What Do Injectable Fillers Treat?

Injectable fillers are commonly utilized to treat static wrinkles, wrinkles that occur because of the natural aging process. These wrinkles become more apparent as we age because our natural production of collagen, a protein that maintains skin firmness, gradually declines. Static wrinkles reveal themselves across the face, including on the forehead, mouth, nose and cheeks. Belotero Balance

This injectable filler consists of hyaluronic acid and is lightweight, making it ideal for treating lines and wrinkles where the skin is thin. Belotero Balance results last around six months to one year.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm is a family of injectable fillers that typically consist of hyaluronic acid. The injectable fillers treat a range of cosmetic concerns and vary in their density and textures, meaning they are designed to suit specific cosmetic concerns. Juvéderm injectable fillers offered at Terrasse Aesthetic surgery include:

Juvéderm Ultra & Ultra Plus: Juvéderm Ultra is an excellent injectable filler used to treat slight to moderate wrinkles and is often used as a lip filler. Juvéderm Ultra Plus is best suited for treating moderate to severe wrinkles. The primary difference between these two fillers is their consistency. Juvéderm Ultra has a thinner consistency, so at times it is used to treat finer lines. These fillers last approximately one year.

Juvéderm Volbella: Juvéderm Volbella is the ideal injectable filler for attaining the polished appearing lips you have always wanted. The injectable filler contains a refined hyaluronic acid designed to restore thin lips and treat vertical lip lines without interfering with an individual’s mouth movements. Juvéderm Volbella results last for six months to one year.

Juvéderm Vollure: This particular injectable filler of the JJuvéderm family is less dense, making it very versatile for treating a wide range of cosmetic concerns. The injectable filler is often used to treat concerns around the mouth and cheeks and allows for the face to retain natural movements. Juvéderm results can potentially last for as long as 18 months.

Juvéderm Voluma XC: JuvédermVoluma XC is ideal for patients who have experienced volume loss in their cheeks, general midface region, jawline and nose. The injectable filler is generally placed near bone to gently lift the skin and restore more youthful-looking curves. The filler can improve the cheeks and eyelids in conjunction, which helps an individual look more youthful and healthy. Juvéderm Voluma XC produces results that can last up to two years.

Radiesse

Radiesse differs from most other injectable fillers because it consists of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHa) gel microspheres, which are made up of ions of phosphate and calcium that occur naturally in the body. CaHa helps stimulate your body’s collagen production, allowing your body to continue producing its own filler after injection. The injectable filler can treat wrinkles and lines across the face and produce results lasting approximately one to two years.

Restylane

Like Juvederm, Restylane is a family of injectable fillers utilized to treat a wide range of cosmetic concerns. However, the Restylane line of products differs from the Juvederm family because it’s fillers are microscopic and have a granular texture, making them perfect for adding volume to where hollows are present. Restylane is ideal for treating sunken cheeks and an uneven jawline. How long results last varies depending on where the filler is injected, ranging from six months to 18 months.

Restylane Silk

Restylane Silk is a unique product from the Restylane family that is well-suited for treating the lips. The injectable filler can add volume to thin lips, treat vertical lip lines and create more definition. This filler can adequately treat the lips because it contains smoother hyaluronic acid particles than other Restylane products—results for this filler last around six months.

Sculptra

This injectable filler contains a synthetic substance known as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that stimulates the body’s production of collagen. Its full effect appears over time. Sculptra is often used to treat deep lines, creases and folds to create a more youthful and energetic appearance. Because of the collagen-stimulating products of PLLA, Sculptra produces results that can last up to two years.
