What Is BBL® HERO™?

BBL stands for BroadBand Light, a world-renowned light-based technology developed by Sciton that is recognized globally for its outstanding clinical outcomes and innovative design. BBL HERO (High Energy Rapid Output) is the next generation of this proven platform, delivering four times the speed, three times the peak power and twice the cooling capacity compared to earlier BBL systems.

BBL HERO has become one of the most popular noninvasive skin treatments available because of its ability to address a range of conditions in a short period and without the need for an extensive recovery. 

Sciton also manufactures a host of other treatment devices like MOXI, SkinTyte and Forever Clear. All of these products use the same core system with different attachments, making it one of the most versatile treatment methods on the market. How Does BBL® HERO™ Work?

The technology behind BBL HERO has perfected the ability to send out waves of concentrated broadband light into your skin. When the light reaches your body, it is converted into heat and absorbed by the underlying tissues. This causes controlled, targeted damage, allowing your body’s natural healing process to trigger.

This healing process floods the area with a wave of essential proteins like collagen, which helps provide an overall boost to your skin. Collagen and other healing factors can help address many aesthetic concerns throughout our bodies. The light can also destroy unwanted pigmentation and replace it with new tissue.

What to Expect During a BBL® HERO™ Treatment

At the start of your BBL HERO session, your provider will cleanse the treatment area and place protective eyewear over your eyes. The BBL HERO handpiece is then passed over your skin, delivering precise pulses of broadband light to the targeted areas.

Most patients tolerate the treatment very well. The sensation is often described as a quick snapping feeling or pulses of warmth against the skin. Advanced cooling technology built into the system helps improve your comfort throughout the procedure. Because treatment settings can be customized, your provider can adjust the intensity based on your skin type and sensitivity level. 

Sessions typically take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size and number of areas being treated.

What Is BBL® HERO™ Recovery Like?

BBL HERO is noninvasive, meaning it does not require any breaking of the skin or more radical treatment methods. One benefit of this type of procedure is that the recovery is much shorter than other treatments. Generally, patients experience only minor swelling or redness after a BBL HERO procedure. The bulk of these symptoms are gone after the first 48 hours, but they can sometimes linger for a week or two if you had a particularly aggressive treatment.

You will not need any time away from work or other obligations, and you can return to your usual routines on the same day as your procedure. We ask all of our patients to avoid excessive sun exposure immediately before and after BBL HERO, as this can compromise results and cause unnecessary discomfort. Many patients can resume wearing makeup within 24 hours after treatment, though using gentle, non-irritating products is generally recommended while the skin calms.

What Results Can I Expect From BBL® HERO™?

Most patients notice visible improvements in their skin within one to two weeks of a BBL HERO session. You can expect to see a more even skin tone, including reduced discoloration from sun damage or age spots, a smoother texture and a refreshed overall look.
