Brow Lift
Because our faces are in a near-constant state of animation, over time, the lines and wrinkles created when we frown or squint can become permanent fixtures on our foreheads. Nonsurgical options, such as Botox and fillers, may address the problems temporarily, but eventually, you may want to consider a permanent fix, in the form of a brow lift.
One of the primary benefits of a brow lift is that it can rejuvenate an aging forehead, so that those permanent furrows no longer make you look perpetually worried or angry. A brow lift can help to eliminate sagging and heaviness, and smooth out those lines so that you look refreshed and relaxed.
Brow Lift Techniques
There are several techniques that Dr. Terrasse can use for your brow lift. They include:
- Endoscopic Brow Lift – This is an often used method for a brow lift, because it is less invasive than other techniques, but can still provide excellent results. During an endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Terrasse will make several small incisions just within the hairline. He then inserts an endoscope (a narrow tube with a camera on one end) into the incisions, and uses it to guide him as he lifts the underlying tissue and repositions the muscles, removing any excess tissue or fat if necessary. The result is a smoother, more youthful forehead.
Some people may not be a candidate for an endoscopic brow lift, in which case, there are two other options:
- Temporal (Limited Incision) Brow Lift – Using this method, Dr. Terrasse makes small incisions behind the hairline, right above your temples, and lift your outer brow area through these incisions. A temporal brow lift can be combined with a blepharoplasty (eye lift) if indicated.
- Coronal (Classic) Brow Lift – While this technique was once the standard for brow lifts, it is used less frequently, as plastic surgeons have discovered less invasive techniques that can yield superior results. For some people, however, a coronal brow lift may be the best choice to achieve the results you’re looking for. A coronal brow lift involves an incision made behind the hairline or at the hairline. Dr. Terrasse will then remove any excess tissue and fat, and reposition the skin and muscles to smooth out the wrinkles in your forehead and to raise the brows to a more flattering position.
A brow lift can be performed alone, or in combination with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift or blepharoplasty. During your consultation with Dr. Terrasse, he will examine you and discuss your desired results. The technique he will use for your brow lift will depend on the extent of the sagging, as well as your goals, and together you can choose the option that will give you the best possible result from your surgery.
Results and Recovery
A brow lift is usually performed using local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia. After the procedure, your forehead will be wrapped in bandages to protect the incisions, and Dr. Terrasse will provide you with instructions for caring for the area as it heals. You may experience some bruising and swelling, and some minor pain, but this can be addressed with over-the-counter pain medication. You will probably be able to resume normal activities at about two weeks post-surgery, though strenuous activities are prohibited until you are cleared by Dr. Terrasse.
