What Is SkinPen® Microneedling?

SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device designed to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and older. This advanced skin rejuvenation treatment platform uses a pen-like device equipped with 14 tiny, sterile needles that create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. What to Expect During Your SkinPen® Treatment Journey

Your Consultation

In your initial consultation appointment, one of our licensed medical aestheticians will examine your skin, discuss your concerns and goals, and explain how microneedling can address your specific needs. This is your opportunity to ask questions and understand what the treatment involves.

Preparing for Treatment

Preparation for SkinPen is straightforward. In the days leading up to your appointment, avoid sun exposure, retinoids and other potentially irritating products. Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, and let us know about any medications or supplements you’re taking.

The Treatment Process

On the day of your treatment, your aesthetician will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream to maximize your comfort during the procedure. Once the numbing has taken effect (typically after 30 to 45 minutes), the SkinPen device will be passed over the treatment areas in a systematic pattern.

You’ll feel a gentle scratching sensation as the needles create micro-channels in your skin. Most patients find the experience quite tolerable, especially with numbing cream. The entire treatment typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

If you’re receiving exosomes as part of your treatment, these will be applied topically during or immediately after microneedling to penetrate through the micro-channels and deliver their regenerative benefits directly into the deeper layers of skin.

After Your Session

Immediately following treatment, your skin will appear red and may feel warm, similar to a sunburn. This is a normal response that indicates your skin’s healing processes have been activated. Your aesthetician will apply a soothing serum and provide detailed aftercare instructions.

Within a day or two, the redness typically subsides significantly. You may notice some light peeling or flaking as your skin renews itself, but this is generally minimal. Most patients return to work and normal activities the next day, making SkinPen an excellent “lunchtime” treatment option.

Maintaining Your SkinPen® Results

The collagen and elastin produced through SkinPen treatments continue to develop for several months after your final session, with full results typically surfacing three to six months post-treatment. These improvements can last a year or longer, though natural aging and environmental factors will continue to affect your skin over time.
