Best Areas for Liposuction

Each year, as winter changes to spring, our thoughts turn to more outside activities, and you may notice that you gained a bit of extra padding during the colder months. Even though you may have stuck closely to your new year’s resolution of healthier eating and regular workouts, there might still be a few problem spots that refuse to respond to your best efforts. At Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery, we understand that even the fittest among us may have pockets of excess fat that keep you from the results you work so hard to achieve. That’s why we offer liposuction – to help put the finishing touches on the physique you are ready to show off in the heat of the summer.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that has been used successfully to contour millions of bodies for over 40 years. In fact, liposuction is consistently at the top of the list of most-performed cosmetic surgery procedures, with nearly half a million people choosing to undergo the treatment each year. It’s a tried-and-true method of body contouring that has stood the test of time. At Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery, we offer two types of liposuction:

Traditional Liposuction – is a surgical procedure performed using general anesthesia, or local anesthesia with IV sedation. During the procedure, Dr. Terrasse marks the areas of your body targeted for liposuction, and makes small incisions at those target points. A thin, narrow tube, known as a cannula, is first inserted into the incisions and generous amounts of numbing medicine mixed with epinephrine to constrict blood vessels are placed within the fatty layer. Then the excess fat is then suctioned out of the treatment area using a narrow tube called a cannula and then it is measured and disposed of. Traditional liposuction requires a little downtime for recovery – most patients only need to rest and limit activity for a few days, and are able to return to all of their everyday activities within about two weeks following the procedure.

SmartLipo – is a minimally invasive, laser-assisted lipolysis body contouring procedure. After numbing the area as described above, it uses thermal energy to dissolve fat cells in problem areas, melting the fat for easy suctioning from your body. Besides the liposuction technology of SmartLipo, the laser energy used also provides additional benefits, including coagulating the blood vessels in the tissue around the treatment area to decrease bruising, as well as boosting your body’s natural production of the vital protein collagen and stimulating the tissue’s collagen to contract, which tightens the skin. The end result is better contours and more youth and smooth looking skin. SmartLipo is performed in our office using local anesthesia, and requires no significant downtime for recovery.

Keep in mind that liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a method of weight loss. If you have a BMI of under 30, and maintain a healthy, stable weight, liposuction may be the right procedure to help you meet your goals.

What are the Best Spots for Liposuction?

Liposuction can address nearly any problem area on your body, from head to toe. While the “best spot” for liposuction is any area that you have stubborn pockets of excess fat, some of the most popular spots include:

Abdomen and Waist – if you have a “pooch” on the front of your abdomen that keeps you from the flat tummy you work so hard for, liposuction is an excellent option. It can also address that pesky muffin top that no amount of oblique exercises can diminish. Many women undergo liposuction in conjunction with a tummy tuck, as well as alone in order to achieve a smoother waistline and flatter stomach.

Back – when you put on a bra or swimsuit, do rolls of fat appear above and below the straps? It’s a frustrating problem to deal with, as it can ruin the smooth line of your clothes or cause you to feel self-conscious about the bulges around your back. Liposuction can eliminate those rolls in a short time-frame, giving you a streamlined back you’re happy to show off.

Hips and Thighs – No matter your diet or exercise regimen, sometimes you just can’t fight genetics. If you have thick thighs and padded hips that cardio and low carb diets won’t shrink, liposuction can help. Lumpy pockets of fat on your inner and outer thighs can be removed, as well as excess fat around your hips, leaving you with the slimmer lower body and more proportionate shape you’ve been looking for.

If you are getting ready to slip into your warmer weather clothes, but want to look just a little more contoured, liposuction at Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery may be the answer. Call our office today at 847-234-2400 to schedule a consultation.
